Up Up and Away!

7/27/10 Alex pulled himself up using the TV stand at work. I saw him get up to his knees, and then he reached up and got on to his feet. I rushed over to be ready to catch him when he fell back. He has pulled himself up to standing before, but never using something taller than himself. In the past the item being used has been shorter than him, so he is on his feet, but bending forward, so he is much less likely to fall back. He did end up letting go and I was there to catch him, but I think it still scared him. He gasped, like he was getting ready for the fall, and even whinnied a little after. I laid him back on the floor, thinking he would climb back up again, but he didn't, he used me instead. I am his favorite thing to use to climb up. I bet it's because I help him stand, once he is about half way.
Over the weekend he would crawl under the kitchen chair to get himself in the middle and then he would stand up, inside the legs of the chair. We have a tall pub style table so he is just the right height to fit under the chair while standing. Last night he did the same thing, but from the outside. Alex is on the move!

7/28/10 Alex stood up in his crib tonight! I didn't think it was going to happen! About a week ago we lowered his crib. It always freaks me out when people wait until the child can stand up. I feel like, if he can stand up, then he can fall out, and I did not want to take that chance. After we lowered it I started to think that maybe he would not be able to stand up with the mattress so low. But Nothing is going to hold this little boy back. I laid him down for a short nap and was surprised to hear giggling coming from his room, so I peeked in on him and that was when I saw him standing. I could not stop laughing. I took a few pictures and laid him back down. I ended up going back in 3 times and finding him standing. He did not end up taking a nap, which was find because I don't like when he takes that late of a nap. When I put him on the living room floor he crawled right over to the foot stool and pulled himself up. He is so strong! After that he tried using the couch but he could not get into the right position to get up. He then crawled over to the gate that blocks off the kitchen and he used that to stand up. Then he tried putting his little toes in the holes of the gate so he could climb the gate! My husband was in shock when he got home and I told him about it and showed him the pictures. Although Alex has been the most wonderful laid back baby, Joe thinks we are in for some trouble!
